As Silas Zindel, a graduate of the Photography program from 2018 to 2020, approached the idea of exploring the Steampunk theme for his diploma projects, neither his fellow students nor we, the instructors, initially understood the meaning behind this term. It was described as "a futuristic vision from the perspective of earlier times." Steam and gear-driven mechanics, Victorian value systems, and a considerable dose of adventure romanticism were the main features of this art genre. Zindel attended numerous Swiss gatherings of this peculiar community, befriended members of this movement, and even accepted invitations to their homes. Another significant talent of Silas Zindel can be described with this exact circumstance: he is someone who approaches people directly and openly. And people allow him to do so; they trust him because it's immediately evident that he has a keen sensitivity to "others." Silas is also not pushy; he gives both others and himself time. What does that mean? He doesn't mind coming by two, three, or four times. The effort is worth it to him!
